What's the chances of that then?

So, we arrive in Edinburgh, pick up our hire car that Pauline had booked and after an overnight stay at our friend John's, drive to Ayr to rendezvous with Pauline's sister Eileen at the church on Sunday. She had flown into Glasgow where she too had picked up her hire car.

Imagine our surprise when we saw what we were driving!! The same little Fiat with only one letter different on the number plate!!
Both of them had chosen to use a company they had not tried before, without consulting with one and other...what's the chances of that then?

Ryanair and paying to sit together

For our flight over to Scotland on Saturday from Poitiers to Edinburgh we did not pay for allocated seats (a) because we had already paid a high price for our seats as it was a last minute thing and (b)  in protest of the company's money making policy. As it turned out I was 'randomly' allocated seat 16E and Pauline 17E behind me, both with the advantage of more leg room as these are exit door seats. The plane was full apart from one seat which happened to be the window seat beside me! Fortunately common sense prevailed and Pauline was allowed to use the empty seat but I wonder how many others were separated by this current policy from the company who claim to be 'always getting better', at making money perhaps!

Church for Sunday - Saint-Pierre-les-Églises - Chauvigny

On a recent brocante trip down to Chauvigny friends Dennis & Angela took us to visit the interesting little church of  Saint-Pierre-les-Églises on the edge of the town.

The church sits in a cemetery of Merovingian origin as evidenced by the sarcophagi that are strewn around it.

Inside the main interest lies in its (10th century) pre-Roman apse with a set of frescoes belonging to the Carolingian era.

Although it does have other points of interest.

It struck me that outside isn't somewhere you would want to stroll through on a dark night.

A walk around Montebœuf...

On Wednesday we joined friends for a walk around Montebœuf just outside Vic-sur-Gartempe. I have to admit that as we set off I needed a little convincing that it was a good idea as we watched the rain falling outside. By the time we arrived at our  walking route it had stopped but as you can see from the above pic we were prepared for the worst.

Although it did threaten on a couple of occasions thankfully we completed the walk without any rain.

As we arrived back at our hosts Chris and Sally's the sun even made an appearance!

Our hosts, supported by contributions, laid on a lovely salad lunch  and refreshments making me even more glad that we decided to join them.
